A Day Not Forgotten, the Attack on Pearl Harbor Essay Example for Free

A Day Not Forgotten, the Attack on Pearl Harbor EssayThe storm on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese on December 7, 1941 remains a clear memory for both nations. Everything seemed to have played in advance of the Empire of Japan from planning, to gathering the necessary resources, the silent 3,300 nautical mile journey of the task power and ultimately the attack itself. From a tactical sales booth the attack was one of the closely ingenious ocean operations in history. With the loss of four U.S. battle sends, 180 Aircraft, and 2,400 sailors the attack can be chalked up as a win for Japan. But since the surprise attack was conducted without a formal declaration of war, it may have been one of the biggest mis guides ever made in world-war II. settle more Homelessness as a social problem EssayPlanning the attack on Pearl Harbor was done by Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, in hopes to challenge Imperial Japans current naval doctrine of Big Ships and Big Guns. Much of imperial Japans naval concern was directed toward the construction of the Musashi, and the Yamato, two of the largest most powerful battleships ever built. Admiral Yamamoto, along with other high-ranking naval mop upices doubted the Big Ships and Big Guns mindset, but it was Yamamoto who opted for a different approach. He recognized the coarse potential of aviation, more specifically naval aviation since the 1930s. The idea of an air assail on Hawaii came after his observance of naval air maneuvers, all the way demonstrating the superiority of air power over battleships. This may have possibly been the main reason why the Japanese decided to take on such an operation, to simply prove the value of the aircraft carrier. With the aid of Rear Admiral Takijiro Onishi and Commander Minoru Genda, Yamamoto began to devise a plan of attack. The operation must be executed in a manner that takes the opposition by surprise, with the main targets being the aircraft carriers and land-based planes. All available J apanese aircraft carriers will be needed for the operation, with the primary method of attack being torpedo- and dive-bombing. Bomber support and strafing runs will be handled by the fighter planes, and the operation was to be conducted early morning.Even the best laid plans have problems, and the raid was no exception. One such problem would be the allocation of resources for both an attack on Hawaii and the operations in the Philippines which have already begun to take nonplus. Other than the small number of aircraft carriers that the Japanese fleet maintained, another problem would be the large amounts of oil needed to support both operations. The attack itself had a number of obstacles, one of which would be the issue of maintaining secrecy. An operation such as this raid the element of surprise is paramount very few people were give details of the operation. Second would be the route traveled by the task force, because plotting a course through the rough waters of the northern pacific during the pass is not an easy task. Ultimately the task force would start from Etorohu heading 42 degrees north/ 147 degrees west, which would eventually put the task force north of Hawaii. eventually was the issue of releasing torpedoes in the shallow waters of Pearl Harbor. Modifications were made to the torpedoes allowing them to be used in the harbor.Vice Admiral Chuichi Nagumo was selected as the task force commander for the operation. The task force itself consisted of 30 ships, 6 of which were aircraft carriers, with a full complement of 430 planes to conduct the air raid. During the voyage the fleet was kept under stiff radio silence, and was limited to receiving transmissions. Transmitting messages from the fleet would run the risk of exposing the position of the fleet by the U.S. At this point all the preparations were obviously complete, and the attack on Pearl Harbor was imminent. With all the planning being done by Admiral Yamamoto and the Japanese fleet, th ere were in addition events winning place in Washington. On October 16 of the kindred year news reached Washington reporting the fall of the Konoye Government, expirationing in the appointment of General Tojo as Prime Minister of Japan. This set off alarms in D.C. because of the fact that General Tojo is a militarist, and fears of his cabinet would be bent on war. But the Japanese maintained diplomatic negotiations with the goal of achieving an agreement to heal oil supplies. On the American end of the negotiations, Presidents Roosevelt was more concerned with Japan ending its tripartite pact.Kichisaburo Momura was the ambassador of Japan in charge of facilitating requests between capital of Japan and Washington. He was in charge of delivering the 14 part message from Tokyo that ultimately relays the declaration of war on the U.S., just hours before the attack would commence. The delivery of the final portion of the message came about one hour after the attack had begun, thus making it a violation of international law.The first flap of 183 Japanese planes initiates the attack at 0600 hours and was concentrated on Hickam airfield and the flying boat ramps on Ford Island, with the torpedo bombers en route to battle ship row. The first wave lasts until 0945 with 4 battleships sunk, 8 badly footingd, 200 U.S. aircraft destroyed and multiple smaller ships lost. A secondary attack is launched as well, with the total accident count tallying in roughly 2,400 U.S. personal killed, and 1,200 wounded. A nation-wide broadcast of the Sneak Attack hits the airwaves, rallying the nation behind President Roosevelt into the war. This was the exact opposite result that Admiral Yamamoto had hoped this raid would have on the American fighting spirit. What was thought to be the most brilliant naval operations in history has also become the biggest mistake of World War II.with the un-bounding determination of our people we will gain the inevitable victory. So help us God. These were the last quarrel of president Roosevelt addressing the Japanese attack before the chamber in which he stood erupted with cheer. Although, some of the reactions made by the American people were not so direct headed such as the boycotting of Japanese shops and goods, the nation as a whole was geared toward the war effort, American wanted payback. The war in the Pacific was soft to get going because Europe was made a priority. This would mean the forces already committed to the Pacific were without the possibility of reinforcement. The Japanese onslaught came fast and it looked as if it wasnt slowing down. Position after allied position, was taken by the empire and the outlook of the pacific war looked grim but not for too long.An full admiral by the name of Ernest J. King soon devised a raiding strategy after his careful assessment of previous Japanese operations. The strategy consisted of raids on unsuspecting Japanese positions which were to be conducted by carrier gr oups. The objective of this strategy was to force the Japanese to reinforce these exposed positions thus spreading their defenses too thin and uneffective to counter an actual advance. The carriers that were involved with operation were the U.S.S. Saratoga, Lexington and Enterprise. The raids at first inflicted mild damage, but the carrier group was soon bolstered by the addition of the U.S.S. Yorktown. A raid was conducted on the enemy positions at Lae and Salamana destroying several Japanese transports. Doolittles raid was one that resulted from Admiral Kings strategy, forcing the Japanese high command on their heels. The pivotal naval battle of Midway was also a hard fought victory on the road to winning the war in the Pacific. The Midway atoll was located between the Hawaiian Islands and was a vital strategic position for both countries. It was essentially the doorway to both the Japanese Empire and the U.S. Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, the overall commander of the Pacific theater , be after a scissor type strategy to defend Midway from an impending Japanese attack. This strategy was to be executed in a way where it would place the Japanese carrier group between land-based air attacks and the two U.S. carrier groups. The position of the Japanese fleet was hard to locate until Lieutenant-Commander Wade McClusky spotted an enemy destroyer following it back to the main force. Coincidently the strike group that was launched from the other carrier fleet located the Japanese fleet at the same time approaching from the east. The clash at Midway resulted in a one-sided victory for the U.S. destroying four Japanese carriers, one heavy cruiser, 275 planes, and 3,500 Japanese personnel. As the Allied forces closed in on the Japanese Empire, land based operations became more and more frequent. Although there were plenty more Naval engagements that took place, the taking of land-based positions were the deciding factor. One important land operation was the taking of Guadal canal giving way many lessons learned. At the unfortunate cost of countless lives, it showed the U.S. the difficulty of financial support a fighting force on an enemy shore and the many logistic risks when taking on an amphibious assault. It also made military commanders alive(predicate) of the hardships of fighting in dense jungle terrain and the threat of disease and sickness. One by one enemy positions fell to the Allies and the Japanese Empire soft dwindled. And the closer that the Allies got to their homeland the Japanese fought harder. But their fervor was not enough to beat back onslaught of the Allied forces. With all inch gained, every battle won, and every life lost Allied resolve grew hundreds of times stronger. If it werent for the day that the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, the outcome probably wouldve been different. But the damage was done, and the mistake of awaking the fighting spirit of the American people marked the beginning of the end of the Japanese Empire. Sex and Gender Essay Example for Free

Sex and Gender EssayThe concepts of sex and gender have traditionally been used interchangeably to demarcate surrounded by the identity of the male and the female. However, there are significant differences between the two concepts. Sex as a concept is based based on the perceive material or physiological difference between the male and female bodies, particularly on the anatomy and functions related to the reproductive organs. (Frayser Whitby, 1995, p. 173) Meanwhile, gender refers to the sociable progress of femininity and masculinity ascribed to the ascribed to the reproductive roles which is reinforced through social norms and expectations. (Ibid. ) Arguably, the notions of sex and gender play an important role in the formation of sexual behaviour and gender identity particularly in westbound societies. Judith Butler, a known feminist, argues that sexual difference is often invoked as an issue of material difference, (p. 235) which becomes the basis for the social const ruction of the concept of gender and gender roles in price of the social, political, and economic functions of the male and female. The role of sex and gender constructs is evident in the child-rearing practices of most Western societies wherein children are socialized into their gender roles based on their sexual identity as being male or female. At an early age, children learn virtually appropriate sexual behavior through their parents and other adults, who teach them the prevailing gender norms and social expectations Children and adults who do not conform to what is expected of them in terms of their sexual and gender identity, are socially stigmatized through various labels of deviance. As adults, men and women are expected to take on different forms of employment or to engage in differing sexual behavior. Since men are thought to be physically stronger and more than intellectually adept, they are often encouraged to be more involved in the social and political spheres. Meanwh ile, the perception that women are weaker and more emotional, along with their child-bearing responsibilities, has relegated them into domestic affairs or employment that is related with their supposedly distaff nature such as teaching or nursing. Thus, sex and gender roles influence the way that an individual constructs his or her identity and perceives his or her function in society. By identifying in either the male or female role, the individual develops and internalizes his or her gender roles based on socially accepted norms and standards of behavior.Works CitedButler, Judith (1999). Computed Tomography and Nasal Endoscopy in Chronic Headache

Computed Tomography and Nasal Endoscopy in Chronic worrySTUDY OF correlation coefficient BETWEEN COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY AND NASAL ENDOSCOPY IN CHRONIC HEADACHEABSTRACTAIM To evaluate the correlation between radiological and endoscopic findings in cases of chronic headacheMethodologyThe study includes 300 patients who presented to the OPD of a tertiary level centre with headache.RESULTSEndoscopic and CT abnormalities were detected in 265/300 (88.3%) patients. Most parking area abnormality was a septal spur impinging on lateral penurious wall seen in 94 cases (35.4%), conform toed by inferior turbinate hypertrophy, concha bullosa, supportive maxillary sinus ostium, paradoxical curved middle turbinate, polyposis and frontal osteoma. A majority of patients had associated changes in the sinuses as well.CONCLUSIONThe study highlights the correlation between radiological and endoscopic findings of sinonasal unsoundness as a cause of headache. Abnormalities and variations in endonasal an atomy, functional or anatomic or a combination of these variations caused narrowing of OMU, which predisposed patients to sinonasal disease and headacheKey Words Endoscopy, irritationIntperchuction botheration is common with high lifetime prevalence in general population. Headache disorders are loosely classified as either primary ( megrim, tension type and cluster headache) or secondary (infectious, vascular, drug induced). 1 Chronic headache, defined as headache on 15 or more days per month, affects 3% of people worldwide. 2 Sinusitis may constitute one of the most commonly confusing clinical presentation of migraine 3, probably because cranial autonomic symptoms are common in migraine 4 based on activation of the trigeminal-autonomic reflex 5. Headaches located in the frontal, supraorbital, or infraorbital piece are sinus headaches 6. These headaches are usually recurrent, non-seasonal, and unassociated with fever, localized tenderness, or erythema. 7Fifty years ago, the extr acorporeal cold light and its transmission by glass fibers, along with the hopkins rod lens system, were introduced. The development and application of these technologies to upper line of creditways allowed studying, understanding, and improving knowledge of the anatomy, physiology, and diseases of the nasal cavity and sinuses, in particular, some fundamental concepts of modern rhinology are based on endoscopic nasal findings and messerklingers investigations of the pathophysiology of sinus mucosa. These studies radically changed traditional understanding of sinus inflammation and revolutionized its treatment using endoscopic conservative surgical charge messerklinger, 1966, 1967, and 1978.Whether or not nasal obstruction can lead to chronic headache is controversial 8. Paradoxically, sinus disease in like manner tends to be underdiagnosed, as sphenoid sinus infection frequently is missed 9AimThe study was conducted in patients with chronic headache to study the anatomical and pa thological abnormalities in nose and paransasal sinuses, to jibe radiological with endoscopic findings and finally to assess type of cases requiring nasal surgery in patients who are not responding to medical treatment.MethodologyThe study includes 300 patients who presented to the OPD of a tertiary level centre during the period July 2010 to July 2014, who had symptoms and signs of chronic headache.Inclusion criteria Patients presenting with sinugenic headache. The data is collected on the basis of detailed history, systemic examination, ENT examination and investigations.Diagnostic criteria afterward all the selected candidates were worked up on the history, general examination, and ENT examination carried out. CT PNS was make in all the patients. Diagnostic Nasal endoscopy under local anesthesia was done to record the condition of nasal mucosa, septum, turbinates and to assess the condition of the nasopharynx and eustachian tube opening, to look for the presence of mucopus or polyp in the middle meatus/sphenoethmoidal recess/nasopharynx. Also, any co-existing anatomical variations of the lateral wall of the nose were noted. Once the diagnosing and extent of the disease was constituted, the patients were taken up for FESS.ResultsIn present study majority of patients were female. 190 were females and cx were males in a total of 300 patients.Table -1TABLE -2 ABNORMALITIES ON ENDOSCOPIC AND CT EXAMINATIONEndoscopic abnormalities were found in 265/300 patients. legal age of patients had deviated nasal septum with spur impringing on lateral nasal wall, as a most common endoscopic abnormality. Other conditions identified were abnormal middle turbinate, overstated ethmoid bulla, polyps, inferior turbinate hypertrophy, prominent aggernasi cells and frontal osteoma. Sinus involvement of varying severity was seen in 70% of patients.TABLE-3 COMPARISON OF RADIOLOGICAL ENDOSCOPIC ABNORMALITIES manipulationIn present study of 300 patients, all patients underwent medical treatment. The medical treatment included nasal decongestants, steroid sprays, antibiotic therapy and steam inhalation. The minimum period of medical treatment was 6 months. The end point of medical treatment was a piddle of more than 5 on pain scale. 265 patients were taken up for surgery. The most common surgical procedure done was septoplasty with turbinoplasty under LA followed by FESS in cases with sinus involvement. The pain score was evaluated 3 months next surgery. We found that majority of patients who had pain score more than 5 at end of 6months of medical treatment were treated with surgery and had a pain score less than 5 at 3 months.DiscussionStandard radiography is inadequate for the clinical evaluation of sinusitis because it does not evaluate the anterior ethmoid air cells, the upper two thirds of the nasal cavity, or the infundibular, middle meatus, or frontal recess air passages. 11CT is the optimal radiographic study to assess the paranasal sinuses for e vidence of disease. The mucosa of the normal, non infected sinus approximates the bone so closely that it cannot be visualized on ct. Therefore, any soft tissue seen within a sinus is abnormal 12. CT may lay down mucosal thickening, sclerosis, clouding, or air-fluid levels. Imaging must be performed in the coronal plane to adequately demonstrate the ethmoid complex. It can reveal the extent of mucosal disease in the ostio meatal complexIncidental anatomic abnormalities within the paranasal sinuses are common. Incidental anatomic abnormalities on CT scans occur in 27% to 45% of asymptomatic individuals 13. Patients undergoing endoscopic sinus surgery for chronic rhinosinusitis were evaluated with CT and staged according to the Lund system. (Each paranasal sinus anterior ethmoid, posterior ethmoid, maxillary, frontal, and sphenoid sinus for each side was given a score of 0 for no opacification, 1 for partial opacification, or 2 for total opacification) The ostiomeatal complex was ass igned a score of 0 for Patent or 2 for obstructed. The Lund score ranged from 0 to 24.Wolff 14 showed that the sinuses themselves are relatively insensitive to pain. The pain associated with sinusitis comes from engorged and inflamed nasal structures nasofrontal ducts, turbinates, ostia, and superior nasal spaces. Headache associated with paranasal sinus disease usually has a deeper, dull, aching quality have with a heaviness and fullness. It seldom is associated with nausea and vomitingA severe, intractable, new-onset headache that interferes with sleep and is not relieved by simple analgesics should alert one to the diagnosis of sphenoid sinusitis. The headache increases in severity and has no specific location. Pain or paraesthesias in the facial distribution of the fifth nerve and photophobia or eye tearing are suggestive of sphenoid sinusitis. 15-19Mcauliffe et al 20 studied the sensitivity of the nasal cavities and paranasal sinuses using touch, pressure, and faradic stimula tion. The nasal turbinates and sinus ostia were much more sensitive than the mucosal lining of the septum and the paranasal sinuses. Most of the pain elicited was referred pain. It was of increased intensity, longer duration, and referred to larger areas in subjects who had swelling and engorgement of the nasal turbinates and the sinus ostia. Sschnsted-madsen et al 21 followed up 444 patients who had nasal obstruction, 157 of whom had headache. Treatment consisted of septo-plastic surgery, reconstruction of the nasal pyramids, or submucosal conchotomy. The headache usually was localized to the forehead, glabella, or above and around the eyes.Headache can be arising from the paranasal sinuses, which may be missed even after careful history. Nasal endoscopy plays an important role in recognizing pathological changes following radiographic investigations. The IHS has established new criteria for acute sinus headache 22Rhinosinusitis headacheGood nasal endoscopic examination, with CT PN S wherever necessary, has proved best modality for comprehensive diagnosis of chronic inflammatory disease of PNS. Following these definitive reliable techniques with adequate diagnostic information, to determine which treatment modality is required or necessary and also can avoid radical surgery in majority of instances.Jakobsen and Svendstrup (2000) (23) conducted a prospective study on 237 consecutive patients suffering from chronic sinusitis and or nasal polyposis. Nasal obstruction was the most frequent symptom (61%) followed by purulent nasal discharge, anosmia, frontal pain, headache and maxillary pain. Duration of symptoms averaged 9.3years. At the end of 1 year follow up 45% were totally satisfied with the results and were symptom free and 44% were definitely feeling better.Damm et al (2002) (24) conducted a study on patients with CRS to assess impact of FESS on the symptoms profile. Leading symptoms of CRS were nasal obstruction (92%) and postnasal drip (87%). Furthermore, patients reported dry upper respiratory tract syndrome in 68%, hyposmia in 66%, and headache in 64% and asthmatic complaints in 34%. After a mean postoperative follow up of 31.7 months, an progress in quality of life was achieved in 85%, no change in 12% deterioration in 3% mainly responsible for this utility was the postoperative decrease of nasal obstruction (84%), headache (82%) and postnasal drip (74%) (All symptoms p ConclusionIn present study 265 patients were found to have abnormal pathological findings, and 5 patients had typical structure of lateral nasal wall. Among anatomic variants, deviated nasal septum with mucopurulent discharge followed by abnormal uncinate process, abnormal middle turbinate resulted in significant narrowing of OMC. Most of these patients were not relieved with medical treatment had anatomical variations and such patients were posted for surgical treatment. To conclude, combination of thorough nasal endoscopic examination and CT of PNS for diagnosis of functional status of nasal and PNS as well as surgical treatment of functional and anatomical variations including postoperative follow up minimal conservative resection of anatomical abnormalities or small pathological lesions in intricate lateral wall of nose may only be required to alleviate nagging chronic intractable headache. So, nasal endoscopy is useful for the diagnosis as well as for surgical intervention and management of sinugenic headache.Bibiography1 Martin V, Elkind A. Importance of Solar Energy Essay

Importance of Solar Energy EssaySolar nix is the nature available theme of energy it is continuous providing by the Sun. It is the most distinguished of non-conventional sources of energy therefore it is one of the non-polluting energy and helps in less the greenhouse effect. The method as solar panels absorb energy from sun to gain commove for water rut. Similarly as we use the energy of the sun to dry our clothes. Such systems are readily available in the market and are beingness used in populacewide factories and homes. Solar water heaters are cost competitive in many applications when it take into account the total energy cost over the life of system. Although the initial cost of solar water heaters is higher than that of conventional water heaters. However, the fuel (i.e. sun) is safe, free and environmental friendly. To take advantage of these heaters, it mustiness have an unshaded, south-facing location (e.g. roof or south-facing traceows for externally mounted solar panels on construction facade). In this coursework, different types of solar water heaters leave alone be introduced, including application on different types of systems available with their economic and environmental benefits.Solar energy is the most nature inexhaustible renewable energy. To the worlds energy resources perspective, we have relied firmly on traditional energy stocks are already very limited storage capacity of the remaining oil potful be used tho forty-three years natural gas storage capacity of the remainder can only be used Liushiernian Coal is the 200 thirteen years, these stocks will be growing as people increasingly exhausted to do extraction. In addition, carbon dioxide emissions from conventional energy sources is the phenomenon of global warming caused by study reason. Chinas response to the global Framework Convention on Climate Changes international responsibilities, set de 2020 renewable energy will estimate the total generating capacity of 12% of the long-term goal, and actively promote the development and application of renewable energy, reducing the use of traditional fossil fuels and to play a accessibility of renewable energy, turn promoting domestic energy diversification and the main nature. In the vast universe, and human relying on a star is to shine a recent four-color sun. The sun, it was a enormous light and heat, all things on earth to bring vitality, it wasted no time in sending to the space with a lot of energy. It has been calculated, only issued for all wonderful energy, by about the equivalent of 1.3 quadrillion tons of coal combustion is emitted by all the heat. The sun sends to Earths energy is considerable, but only to its 22 ordinal of outward radiation of energy, just from these energies, if the surface of the Earths atmosphere to remove the reflection and absorption of energy, it will really reach the Earth the surface of solar energy, most equal to the worlds current generation capacity of 20 milli on times. Solar energy received on Earth every day, equivalent to the entire world for one year the total energy consumed by 200 times. Only from these figures we can see a huge, really worthy of the suns energy is an inexhaustible protect house of mankind. On the other hand, the earths variety of energy sources, including chemical energy, wind energy, ocean energy, thermal energy and nuclear energy are all posterity of solar energy, solar energy conversion made. Because photovoltaic clean noise-free and changing, as many renewable energy sources and development of the most characteristic items of energy. In building the use of renewable energy technologies are being widely studied and applied them. Renewable energy is a natural? Health and inexhaustible source of energy, which include (but are not limited to) solar, wind, tidal energy, wave energy, geothermal energy, hydropower and bio-energies. Each type of renewable energy has its own unique features, only the right understandin g of these characteristics, we can effectively in our buildings in respect of use of these energy sources.Solar and wind are the most common renewable energy sources. Compared with other renewable energy sources, they are more likely to be collected and used in the building. Currently we collected solar energy can be grouped into three kinds of purposes power generation, heating / cooling, and chemical processes. The first two applications have been applied in Hong Kong, and they are also among the most touristed in building the application method, application examples include the use of passive solar design to warming the room the use of solar water heating system can heat water use of solar PV systems can generate electricity and the joint power companys electricity supply systems that supply the building. The wind can be? Buildings to provide natural ventilation, or to generate electricity. These application methods are not on the environment pollution.

What is Art by Clutton Brock :: Visual Arts Paintings Art

What is Art by Clutton BrockThe essay what is cunning is taken form the volume essays on life byclutton brock and was first published in the form of an article in thetimes literary supplement of january 1924.everyone now is thinking or talk of the town about the nature of art andaesthetic experience .clutton-brock begins his essay by stating thepopular subject of discussion. This subject the nature of art and of beauty is simultaneously enigmatic as well as thrilling .the problem about the nature of artand aesthetic sense is so confusing that it is hard to pin place whatthe actual problem really is. The only thing clear about it is that itis novel and new. Art, in the past was always considered inferior towhat it reflected. Tolstoy in his book what is art? ,even thoughhe himself saw the importance of art reduced art to an absurdity andvalued it in terns of other things and not for it self. That art hadnot the counterbalance to exist for itself ,that it should be judged and valuedn ot for itself but for other subsidary effects whether political, social, or moral. Such a predilection reduces art to nothing and thisconception is the opposite of what art truly is.Shelly in his work defense of poetry considered art to be judged bythe ethical and intellectual benefits it showered upon mankind. Jonsonspoke uncompromisingly on the nature of art. Dr jonson regretted theloss of a proposed epic by dryden because it led to the deprivation ofthe social and moral edification of mankind .what jonson meant wasthat arts function was to socially improve and morally rectify theviewer ,reader or observor of the work of art. Clutton brock opposesthis view and says on the contrary if a pieceof art is lost today itsloss would be mourned not for the values it could or would impart butrather it would be mourned for the loss of art itself. However jonson thought as he did of art because he already had preconceived otions about art and had not examined art carefully to seethe nature of it. If jonson had done so ,he would have seen that artin truth is never valued for moral or ethical or cultural values butfor itself. For Jonson himself would not have read poetry for thestated objects . had he doen so then it would have no longer beenpoetry.Ever since art evolved man has valued art for itself ,without actuallyknowing it,for men still look for reasons as to why they should value

Free Essay - Mrs. Linde and Nora in Ibsens A Dolls House :: A Dolls House Essays

A Dolls House Essay Mrs. Linde and Nora after(prenominal) reading A Dolls House by Hendrik Ibsen. I can conclude that there is both a parallel and a line of products structure in the pieces of Mrs. Linde and Nora. A contrasting difference in the characters, are shown not in the characters themselves, but the role that they play in their marriages. These women have disparate relationships with their husbands. Torvald and Nora have a relationship where there is no equality. To Torvald Nora is an object. Hence, she plays the submissive role in a society where the lady plays the passive role. Her most important province is to please Torvald, making her role similar to a slave. He too considers himself superior to her. As for Kristine and Krogstad their relationship is much more open to us. It is apparent that if Kristine and Krogstad were to control in an argument, it is more likely that that they would come to a compromise. A strong sign that Mrs. Linde brings us a better unde rstanding of Nora is their parallel in characters. two are willing to sacrifice themselves for values dear to their lives. This act of aiding significant loved ones gives us a better understanding of Nora. It gives us an image of who the character Nora really is. Mrs. Linde shows her loyalty to her family when she did not think that she had the right to refuse her husbands marriage proposal. After taking into consideration her sick mother, her brothers, and Krogstad having money. She married for the benefit of her family. Which means that in this society family is top priority. To the women is this era, loyalty to their loved ones is highly expected. Then, we have Nora, who on the same token saves her husband (Torvalds) life, which portrays again, the trend of women sacrificing for their families. They both (Mrs. Linde and Nora) channel their feelings of pride and fulfillment in helping their significant others by sacrificing themselves. Noras character is made more obvious to us by Mrs. Lindes actions. non only did Nora open her mouth about saving her husbands life, but she did it with the utmost pride. Claiming to have raised all the money herself she soaks in her self-importance. In Act 1, Nora seems to thrive on the pride she gets from borrowing the money. I suppose that she is feeling useful for a change.
